i got this yesterday, christmas afternoon from my uncle. it was gritty and dirty (not that a little tlc couldnt help). but i noticed some fungus growth inside the viewfinder window and inside the lens :( im gonna get it cleaned soon and hope to find batteries for this baby. cant wait to use it!

ive been wanting to have a working rangefinder and i couldnt believe my uncle got this in storage.. good thing i got to bring up a conversation about film cameras during our traditional christmas eve dinner w/ the clan.

here’s some info on the camera.

nikon FG test roll

just got my first roll of my nikon FG… it works!!! that’s japanese engineering for you.. even after 20yrs, it’s still doing what its supposed to do.  i just realized how lucky we are to have digital cameras.. film is kinda hard to get used to. no IS, primitive metering, ISO is pretty much limited to the kind of film your using and worse.. its damn expensive! film and processing will definitely cost me.

anyway cant wait to get film slides and b&w high ISO films for that yummy grain (noise to us digital users).

test shots:

i loaded the film wrong i guess, but the exposed area looks sweet to me. (u can see a part of the FG’s manual, in pdf, i was reading on my notebook screen)

then i tested if the metering works.. (why is my mouth open when pressing the shutter?! lol)

then i waited for daylight since i only got a cheap 12exp. ISO100 film for this test

this vivitar macro rocks! can get to a few inches from the subject

goin’ old school

i’ve just found my dad’s nikon FG..(i was looking for this for a long time, all i had to do was ask dad lol!) still looks good and its quite clean except for some dirt and fungus(?) inside the mirror housing. the lens (vivitar 35-70mm 1:2.8-3.8)is spotless. ill buy some batteries and film later and hope this sucker still works. wish me luck!
